With their most recent effort, Crime & Compass, Anchoress havedelved deeper into creating songs that defy categorization. On thesurface, the album continues right where Set Sail left off. But,upon further inspection it becomes clear that the band has donesome growing up. Crime & Compass is far from being just anotherrun-of-the-mill hardcore punk album. The attack of the songs isschizophrenic in the best of ways. From the blistering rock n rollswagger of tracks like Curtain Call to the dark, vicious lashings of Last Sailing of the Miskatonic Mariner and the ebb & flow of theepic Dear Home, the band defiantly explores the outer reaches oftheir sound, feverishly looking to expand their creative territory.
