WARNING: The authorities and many other Grijpstra and DeGier fans have determined these books to be highly addictive!I first read this book (the first of the series) years ago, when still living in Europe and regularly watching the Van der Velk Dutch detective series on television. The handy Amazon widget tells me I purchased my replacement back in 2004, and the LibraryThing Series page says I own most of them. Yet I dislike reading light fiction?The addiction is not to the often simplistic plots but to the interaction between the characters and the moral tone of both the police and the Dutch culture - and in the writing that is utterly fascinating. This is not literature, even with a small L, in any way of course, but the warning is real - this is an interesting and addictive series.
