4.5
Clipped Wings, 4.5 in the Paradise Crime Mystery novels, and we go back years to Between Broken Ferns #4 and Twisted Vine #5 when 16-year-old Consuelo Aguilar is in custody at Oahu Youth Correctional Facility, visited weekly by FBI agent Lei and Consuelo's chihuahua, Angel, and a little less often by news reporter Wendy Watanabe, who covered Consuelo's flying Robin Hood attempt to equalize the masses on the Hawaiian Islands. Consuelo is being coerced by her roommate and fellow conspirators, who are forcing her to join them in a breakout because her connections - and high-priced lawyer - would be an advantage to them all if they were caught. Consuelo tries to get help, but it's too late - and only after she is the only one captured are Lei and Wendy able to get her safely transferred to a youth facility on the mainland - mere minutes from Aunt Rosario's. With the added bonus that when Lei escorts her there, she is able to spend Christmas with Aunt Rosario and her three recently acquired foster children. Its a sweet story, but the sweetest part - 38% of the book is filled with mouth-watering Hawaiian recipes, soup to nuts. What a bonus!
